A sample day in The Field

Each engagement is designed around your team’s unique context. A typical group is 12–15 people. Smaller or larger groups may be possible depending on the setting, the work, and the level of facilitation needed.

The example below shows the rhythm of a full day, not a fixed itinerary. We set the focus with the sponsor beforehand, choose an accessible setting and route, and adjust the activities and timing to the group. Indoor and outdoor options are planned together.

01

The room

  1. Arrive and settle in

Coffee, breakfast, and time to arrive. Orient everyone to the space and the day.

  2. Open the day

A brief welcome from the team’s sponsor names why the group is here and what feels important now. Ana introduces the focus, ways of working, and boundaries for confidentiality and participation. The group adds its perspectives.

02

The living environment

  1. Enter the environment

Move into the chosen setting. Guided prompts draw attention to relationships, boundaries, resources, signals of change, and different responses to the same conditions.

  2. Refreshment break

  3. Explore the team as a living system

In small groups, examine how the team coordinates, shares information, responds to pressure, and adapts. Test interpretations before settling on conclusions.

  4. Lunch

  5. Experiment together

A practical group challenge helps the team notice its working patterns in real time and try another response. Everyone takes part in a way that suits them.

03

The return

  1. Return and make meaning

Compare what happened in the environment with what happens at work. Identify useful patterns and those that have become costly.

  2. Refreshment break

  3. Translate into work

Identify a small number of specific decisions, working agreements, or practices to try in everyday work.

  4. Close and commit

Participants name what they are taking with them. The sponsor reflects on what they heard and how the work will be supported. Agree on first steps and the focus of follow-up.

  5. Depart

Bringing the work back

A follow-up conversation returns to the team’s decisions and working agreements: what changed, what proved difficult, and what needs further attention.

How we prepare and support the work

Preparation conversations with the sponsor establish the team’s context, focus, and what would make the day useful. The sponsor helps open and close the day; Ana holds the inquiry and participation.

We discuss access needs before choosing the setting and route. Weather alternatives and indoor options are planned together. Prompts, timing, and different ways to participate are adapted to the group.

Follow-up returns to the decisions and working agreements, considers what changed, and identifies what needs further attention.
